Recognized for excellence in addressing vision issues by well-renowned ophthalmology organizations, such as the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the International Society of Refractive Surgery, and Castle Connolly’s Guide to America’s Top Ophthalmologists, Dr. Waring’s exceptional work has garnered attention both locally and abroad. A highly respected authority in the world of ophthalmology, Dr. Waring has played an important role in the development of some of the most prominent and innovative eye procedures available in the world.

Cataract Treatment

A cataract is a condition defined as the ‘clouding’ of the eye’s natural lens. While this condition is often associated with the aging process, it isn’t the direct cause. Excess protein buildup in the lens is ultimately what causes blurry vision, glare issues, a reduction in color, reduced night vision, and myopia (nearsightedness).

Cataracts are basically irreversible and, unlike other eye issues that can be corrected with glasses or contacts, they can only be addressed with surgical intervention. Cataract surgery essentially involves removing and replacing the eye’s natural lens with an artificial one that provides clear vision. While many patients may feel nervous about eye surgery, the procedure is very quick and only comes with mild discomfort.

Dr. Waring is also known for performing a more advanced form of treatment known as refractive cataract surgery. This approach combines the lens replacement aspect of cataract surgery with the laser correction used to correct issues such as nearsightedness, farsightedness (hyperopia), or astigmatism. This combination procedure provides patients with improved distance and reading vision and a minimal need for glasses. Recent advances in technology have enabled the development of this effective combination procedure. This treatment is just one example of Dr. Waring’s expertise and innovative sensibilities in the world of ophthalmology.

Laser Vision Correction (LASIK)

Clients who struggle with issues such as myopia, hyperopia, or astigmatism can benefit from LASIK. For decades, laser technology has been used to address issues in the cornea and alleviate vision problems. LASIK and other laser vision correction procedures are simple and mostly painless. More importantly, they drastically improve the patient’s vision, allowing them to live comfortably without the need for glasses or other corrective wear.

These lasers are operated using computer-generation information gleaned about the patient’s eyes during their consultation. This ensures that the treatment process elicits accurate results. The first laser vision correction procedure was performed in 1988, and since then, it has developed into a formidable treatment that can revolutionize the way one sees the world.

While LASIK can drastically improve a patient’s vision, there are certain factors that will limit its efficacy. For starters, LASIK surgery is most suitable for patients who are nearsighted. Beyond that, it is also not considered to be a suitable procedure for patients who are under the age of 18. At this age, patients’ bodies are still changing, meaning that things are not set in place. This applies to the eyes as well. While some patients may wish to undergo LASIK surgery in their teen years, it is best to wait until hormonal fluctuations and other factors have settled down.
