On top of being an incredibly conscientious and dedicated practitioner, Dr. Waring has played an important part in developing some of the most popular and successful eye treatments available in the world today.

Cataract Treatment

A cataract is a condition in which the eye’s natural lens becomes ‘clouded,’ distorting the patient’s vision. While we often think of cataracts as being a normal part of aging, they are actually caused by excessive protein buildup. The accumulation of protein in the lens is what leads to issues such as blurred vision, glare issues, a reduction in color, reduced night vision, and myopia (nearsightedness).

While other eye ailments can be addressed by simply employing corrective eyewear (glasses, contact lenses, etc), cataracts are different in that they can only be addressed by way of surgery. Cataract surgery involves removing the eye’s natural lens and implanting an artificial one, giving the patient clearer vision than they’ve had in years. While some may feel nervous about undergoing the treatment, the truth is that it is very mild and comes with minimal downtime.

Dr. Waring also specializes in a more advanced form of cataract treatment known as refractive cataract surgery. This technique is essentially a combination of lens replacement and laser surgery, enabling the practitioner to address vision issues such as nearsightedness, farsightedness (hyperopia), or astigmatism. This combination treatment leaves patients with greatly enhanced distance and reading vision and eliminates or greatly reduces the need for glasses. This remarkable procedure is the result of technological advances in recent years. Dr. Waring’s expertise allows him to achieve incredible results with this procedure.

Laser Vision Correction (LASIK)

Conditions such as myopia, hyperopia, or astigmatism can all be treated with LASIK procedures. For decades, laser technology has been employed to treat issues found in the cornea as well as alleviate vision problems. LASIK and other laser vision correction treatments are easy to carry out and considerably painless. Moreover, they can drastically improve one’s vision, allowing them to enjoy an elevated level of vision and free them from having to wear glasses or other eyewear.

During the consultation, the patient’s eyes are assessed using a program that generates mapping. This enables Dr. Waring to visualize the area clearly and ensure that the results are fully accurate. First performed in 1988, laser eye correction procedures have steadily improved over the years. Today, they can effectively improve vision and achieve precise results.

While LASIK can address a wide array of issues and improve one’s vision, there are certain things to take into account regarding candidacy. For one, LASIK surgery is most effective at treating nearsightedness. Furthermore, it is typically not recommended for patients who are under the age of 18. During puberty, the body is going through many changes due to hormone fluctuations and growth processes. As such, it is best to wait until the body (and eyes) are fully developed before undergoing a LASIK procedure, because any further bodily changes may make the results of the procedure redundant.
