Cataract Treatment &
Surgery

Cataracts are formed when the proteins in the lens of the eye begin to clump together and cloud vision.

The condition results in blurred vision and a range of other vision problems. Cataracts are irreversible and, unlike other conditions that are treatable with glasses or contacts, they can only be resolved with surgical intervention. During surgery, the cataracts are removed and replaced with a replacement lens implant. Although many clients are nervous about eye surgery, the procedure is very quick and most people only report mild discomfort.

Dr. Waring also specializes in an advanced form of treatment called refractive cataract surgery. This procedure combines the lens replacement of cataract surgery with laser correction of nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia), or astigmatism, to improve distance and reading vision with minimal to no need for reading glasses or bifocals. Technological advances have allowed for the procedures to be combined and not only remove cataracts but also correct astigmatism and other focus issues often with the precision of a laser, thereby reducing or eliminating the need for glasses or contacts. It is a highly-innovative procedure, but Dr. Waring is a leading authority in the field and has been involved in developing this advanced vision correction treatment.

Laser Vision Correction (LASIK)

In clients who have myopia, hyperopia, or astigmatism, laser technology is used to treat the cornea or lens problems and alleviate vision problems with LASIK. Most people who have laser vision correction procedures such as LASIK no longer need glasses or contacts, and sight is drastically improved with a simple and typically painless procedure. The laser is computer-programmed based on information about your eyes gathered in your initial consultation, making the process extremely accurate. Some forms of laser vision correction such as LASIK have been used for 15 years, and are known to be a safe and effective way to improve vision.
