LASIK Surgery: Are you a Candidate?

LASIK is not appropriate for those under the age of 18 as the shape of the eye is still changing. In general, if your eyeglass or contact prescription is changing, you need to have about 12 months of unchanging vision prior to undergoing LASIK. If you are not a candidate, we offer various other vision correction treatments that could help you regain clear, sharp vision without glasses beyond LASIK. Those who have the following conditions may not be candidates for LASIK, and can be evaluated for one of our other many vision correction procedures:

Have overly thin corneas
Have severe dry eyes
Have unstable vision
Are pregnant or breast feeding
Have certain medical conditions, like degenerative or autoimmune disorders

Is LASIK Right for Me?

Medical insurance providers consider LASIK an elective procedure, and typically do not cover the procedures. Consult with our ophthalmologist and your insurance provider to see if any part of your surgery could be covered by your health insurance, as some insurances have self-pay accounts for procedures like LASIK. While laser eye surgery has been FDA-approved for 15 years and most clients experience outstanding results, it is important that you understand all the potential risks or complications of the procedure with your eye doctor. These clients are typically excellent candidates for LASIK eye surgery:

Client is in good general health
Client is free of eye diseases, infections, or injuries
Client has stable vision
Client has nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism or presbyopia
