Meet Dr. Greiner, OD

Kaitlyn Greiner, OD Optometrist

Dr. Greiner was born in Charleston and raised on John’s Island, South Carolina. She received her Health Science degree at Clemson University Calhoun Honors College and graduated Cum Laude. She went on to attend the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry where she received her doctorate degree in optometry.

While in Alabama, she provided eye care to underserved communities and raised donations to assist them in gaining access to this much needed care. She also served in a veteran’s hospital by managing a multitude of eye diseases. Through her training at UABSO, she completed rotations in a multidisciplinary clinic including an ocular disease clinic, low vision clinic, and the Institute for the Deaf and Blind. After receiving her doctorate, her optometry career began in the San Francisco area where she enjoyed seeing children and adults at a family ophthalmology practice. She is currently a member of the American Optometric Association, SCOPA, and Coastal Carolina Optometric Society.

Her love for refractive surgery management began during her rotation at a private practice where she cared for patients before and after cataract, LASIK, PRK and eyelid surgeries. Her passion for the anterior segment of the eye began here as she treated every type of dry eye disease and saw how life changing these refractive surgeries were for her patients. After discovering WVI and the patient success stories, she knew that this is where she wanted to serve her hometown and be a part of those success stories on a daily basis. WVI’s mission and commitment to pioneering technology attracted Dr. Greiner to be a part of the team to incorporate her passion to help all patients achieve excellent vision for a lifetime. At WVI, she cares for patients pre and post operatively, is involved in WVI’s ongoing clinical research, and manages the Health, Wellness, and Dry Eye Clinic in partnership Dr. Ellesse Boiwka, OD.

In addition to her profession, she enjoys taking her rescue Chihuahua to the beach, fostering animals, traveling, searching for sea glass, and spending time with her family now that she and her fiancé are back home in Charleston.
